WHAT TO EXPECT

WHAT TO EXPECT

WHETHER YOU ARE EXPLORING FAITH IN CHRIST, OR ARE SIMPLY LOOKING FOR A CHURCH HOME, OUR PRAYER IS THAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE JESUS AT THE HILL.

We are committed to simple and biblical worship that prioritizes its corporate nature and highlights the work of God through the gospel. We do this primarily through the singing of songs, prayer, the reading and preaching of God’s Word, and regularly partaking in the ordinances of communion and baptism. You can expect a historical yet modern approach to corporate worship that both celebrates our past and embraces our cultural context.

JOIN US SUNDAYS AT 10AM

We are located across the street from Helix High School and adjacent to the Boys and Girls Club, surrounding many of the neighborhoods in the heart of La Mesa. We are known in the community as "the church up on the hill." From this hill, we declare the good news of Jesus Christ, and our desire is for everyone who visits The Hill Church to experience the special community created by the gospel. We encourage you to come early, grab some coffee, and hang out with our family. We believe that you’ll feel welcomed and right at home.

Visit us this Sunday!

WHY WE MEET

WHY WE MEET

WE MEET EVERY SUNDAY MORNING AS A FAMILY TO WORSHIP GOD IN RESPONSE TO WHO HE IS AND WHAT HE HAS DONE FOR US IN JESUS CHRIST.

The Gospel is at the center of why we meet. The Gospel is simply the good news of the saving life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This good news saves us from our sins and creates us into a new gospel family. Simply said, salvation is a community creating event. In Christ, we are united into one family, diverse in age and race, yet unified by grace and bound together as God’s people. The greatest expression of this reality is found in the local church–a community formed by the gospel which reflects the unity of Christ in loving relationships.

As a family formed and shaped by the gospel, we meet weekly to...

REMEMBER

We meet to remember the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christian worship is a weekly reenactment of the gospel message, leading us to reflect upon our sin, our need to repent, the grace of God, and the power of his salvation.

CELEBRATE

We meet to celebrate the life-changing power of the gospel and the enduring goodness of God's character. We celebrate not only what God has done for us, but who he is and how he continues to change us in and through the gospel.

ENCOURAGE

We meet to encourage one another in the gospel, allowing it to be the motivation for how we live as worship unto God. Our mutual encouragement stirs us to love one another and propels us to serve each other and the world around us.

EQUIP

We meet to be equipped in the gospel through the preaching of God's Word. The Word of God transforms and equips us to be sent out into the world, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to bear witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

HILL CITY KIDZ

HILL CITY KIDZ

HILL CITY KIDZ EXISTS TO GLORIFY GOD BY INTRODUCING YOUTH TO JESUS CHRIST AND EQUIPPING THEM TO BE ACTIVE DISCIPLES.

We strive to do so primarily through the teaching and study of God's Word, and by equipping parents to disciple their children. Our focus is helping youth grow in their knowledge of who they are in Christ (Eph. 3:14-18), practice living out the gospel with one another (John 13:34-35), and proclaiming the gospel to our neighbors in word and deed  (Mark 16:15).

SUNDAY MORNINGS

Infant and toddler care are provided during our Sunday morning worship service and Sunday School classes are divided into three age groups: Lower Elementary (Kindergarten to 2nd Grade)Upper Elementary (3rd and 4th Grade), and Middle School (5th to 8th Grade)

Sunday mornings begin at the HCK check-in center, where children from infants to middle school will get a name tag, while parents get a matching security code label that will be used for child pick-up at the conclusion of the service. Kids are welcome to hang out with each other and play in the courtyard with Sunday School teacher supervision.  The youth will join the adults for the first part of the worship service with their Sunday School teachers and will be released from there to their respective classes.

CURRICULUM

We are currently teaching the Word of God through LifeWay's the Gospel Project for Kids, which walks kids from Genesis to Revelation and unfolds God's rescue plan for humanity, the gospel of Jesus Christ! Kids can expect to hear the Bible read, watch creative videos that retell the Bible stories, and be engaged through games, activities, and crafts that reinforce the gospel message. We also pray for one another, play and sing with friends, and enjoy a snack together (allergy safe), which is just our way of saying a sweet good-bye. Parents are also equipped with a mid-week devotional to take home to share with their kids.

SAFETY

Our desire is to create a safe environment for the children in our church to be engaged with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Rest assured that every volunteer working with The Hill City Kidz has completed a background check. Additionally, volunteers meet throughout the year for debriefs and on-going training to ensure we are providing a safe environment for our kids and being equipped to engage them with the gospel in an age-appropriate manner. All classrooms are equipped with first aid kits, and sensitive to the needs of children with allergies.
